Clean Air Day
June 6, 2018
In recognition of Clean Air Day, the Wednesday of Canadian Environment Week, the FVRD partnered with the BC Lung Association to celebrate clean air with elementary students in Chilliwack. The grade five class learned about the importance of our airshed and how they contribute to clean air quality.
After a fun experiment using food colouring and different temperatures of water to demonstrate how pollutants mix in the air, the students made and decorated kites, which they flew outside, filling the sky with clean air messages.
The FVRD currently delivers air quality educational workshops and has developed a teacher resource guide called “Love Our Air”. The lessons are designed for grades 5 and 10 science classrooms and linked to the BC curriculum. The lessons include hands-on activities while teaching students the relevance of air quality in their own lives, in their community and in the wider world.
