Cultus Lake Zoning Bylaw Moves to Public Hearing
The Board gave first reading to the new Cultus Lake Zoning Bylaw. An public hearing is scheduled for July 13 at 7 p.m. The hearing will be held at Cultus Lake Community School, 71 Sunnyside Avenue, Cultus Lake.
FVRD Releases 2016 Annual Report
While it is not a legislative requirement under the Community Charter or the Local Government Act, the FVRD endeavours to keep the community informed by releasing an annual report. This year’s report, Strengthening Partnerships, Working Together can be viewed [PDF - 4.5 MB] online at www.fvrd.ca and also once again includes a 2 minute video, highlighting the year’s projects and programs.
Waste Wise Web Site Launched
As the FVRD continues the consultation process to implement new regional sorting requirements under its Solid Waste Management Plan, the FVRD has launched a new web site, www.bewastewise.com. The site features a range of recycling and composting information including five engaging and humourous videos that show residents and businesses how easy it is to #SortItOut.
FVRD to Contribute $25,000 to Tashme Museum
In July 1942, Tashme was the largest Japanese interment camp in Canada. The Tashme Museum, located in Sunshine Valley (Electoral Area B) aims to educate Canadians on what life was like for the 2,644 Japanese Canadians who lived in the camp. The donation will serve to renovate a building on the site.
FVARC to Establish Lending Library
The board has approved the creation of a small lending library for staff and elected officials, containing Indigenous-authored books and reading materials that accurately depic Indigenous history, Canadian history, and Indigenous culture.
Proposed Telecommunications Tower for Electoral Area ‘H’
The board received a referral from the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Economic Development on an application by Freedom Mobile to build a telecommunications tower and facility at 1455 Frost Road in the Columbia Valley (Electoral Area H). The board deferred its response to this referral until public consultation is complete and clarification is received with respect to service coverage.
