Freedom of Information

The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act helps to make public bodies more accountable and to protect personal privacy by:

  • giving the public a right of access to records, where permissible, and
  • giving individuals a right of access to, and a right to request correction of, personal information about themselves;

The Act applies to all records in the custody or under the control of a public body, subject to exceptions identified in the Act. The Fraser Valley Regional District is a public body as defined in the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. 

Routine Requests

Records such as agendas and minutes of open meetings, bylaws, policies and procedures and information related to your property are often available on our public website or upon request. Please contact the appropriate department for access to these types of information.

Formal Requests

Should you wish to make a request for access to records in the custody or under the control of the Fraser Valley Regional District, please submit your request in writing, either by emailing the details of your request to FOI@fvrd.ca or by filling out and mailing the Freedom of Information Request Form  [PDF - 45 KB] .

The Act allows a maximum of 30 business days for us to respond to your request, except in specific cases where the time period may be extended. You should also be aware that fees may be charged for the records requested. Early on in the process, a fee estimate will be sent to you detailing the estimated charges.
