Board Celebrates 50th Anniversary With Time Capsule

October 24, 2017

Regional districts are 50 years old, and in honour of this milestone, the FVRD's board of directors buried a time capsule at its offices in Chilliwack today. All 14 communities of the FVRD were invited to contribute: Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Harrison Hot Springs, Hope, Kent, Mission and Electoral Areas A through H.

Some of the capsule's contents include annual reports, photos of people and projects completed in 2017, lapel pins, and other memorabilia. Electoral Area E Director Orion Engar deposited a Chilliwack River Valley baseball hat, with the words "Preserve and Protect", signifying that area's focus to protect the Chilliwack River Valley for future generations. The District of Mission shared a variety of items from their own Mission 125 celebrations, including two hand made dolls and a printed bag and tea towel featuring local flora and fauna. The dolls were made by Jamie Shaw and are dressed in period clothing from 1892.

It is hoped that the capsule will be unearthed in 2067, 50 years from now.
