Wildfire Evacuation Update
July 17, 2017
The City of Chilliwack has opened a Reception Centre for evacuees at Chilliwack Secondary School (46363 Yale Road). Everyone that comes to the facility will be encouraged to register with the Red Cross and computers have been set up at the school for this purpose. They can also register by calling the Red Cross at 1-800-863-6582 or going on line at www.redcross.ca. Evacuees should bring photo ID, proof of primary residence and documentation from any other evacuation centres they may have gone to previously. There is also a BC Wildfire Evacuees Support Facebook Group at: https://www.facebook.com/groups/BC.Wildfire.Evacuee.Support/
Donations: Although everyone kindly wants to provide donations, the preferred method of assistance is to donate funds via the Red Cross versus offering new or used donated items to be relocated into the affected areas.
Volunteering: Due to the overwhelming response from the community, the reception centre at Chilliwack Secondary no longer requires untrained volunteers. Please continue to donate funds to the Red Cross, as this organization will be involved after the evacuees return home and assess their needs.
