Qualifications
To be eligible to run for office candidates must:
- be 18 years of age or older on October 17, 2026
- be a Canadian citizen
- have been a resident of BC for at least 6 months
- not be disqualified by law from being nominated, elected or holding office
Nomination
Candidates must be nominated by two qualified electors from the applicable electoral area or school trustee area.

Nomination packages are also available for pick up at the FVRD office in Chilliwack or at the Hope and District Recreation Centre starting August 10.
Nomination Period opens: 9 am on September 1, 2026
Deadline for nomination documents: 4 pm September 11, 2026
Election Offences & Penalties
Election offences and penalties are prescribed in Part 3, Division 17 of the Local Government Act and in the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act.
Campaign Financing & Advertising
Elections BC is responsible for administering the campaign financing and election advertising requirements in the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act. More information is provided on the Elections BC website.
