Emergency Response Continues in the Region

As a result of heavy rainfall causing overland flooding and mudslides, the Fraser Valley Regional District’s (FVRD) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) was activated late Sunday evening and a State of Local Emergency has been issued for the region.

As the FVRD’s eight electoral areas begin to fully assess the damage caused by flooding in the region, Board Chair Jason Lum extended his thanks to the Electoral Area Directors and the hundreds of community heroes who have jumped in to respond to the largest flood emergency in recent memory.

“The FVRD’s EOC has been working around the clock alongside nine volunteer fire departments and hundreds of community-minded neighbours who have been dealing with the terrible conditions these floods have wrought. Many residents in our electoral areas have been cut off due to road washouts, mudslides and power outages. Amid this uncertainty, residents have banded together to help one another. I know our Electoral Area Directors have been on the ground actively helping their neighbours,” said Lum.

The FVRD currently has six Evacuation Orders and one Evacuation Alert affecting 42 properties in Electoral Areas B, D, E, and H. If there is an immediate threat to persons or property, please call 911. Residents needing assistance should call the FVRD EOC at 778-704-0400.

EOC staff have been working tirelessly for the last several days to assess areas of extreme danger and damage, clear roads and culverts of mud and debris, and keep our community informed. We would like to thank everyone who is diligently working in these extreme weather conditions to keep our community safe.
