FVRD Hires Consultant to Lead Atmospheric River Recovery Efforts

March 4, 2022

Alison Poste Consulting has been engaged to assist the Fraser Valley Regional District with recovery efforts from last fall’s atmospheric river extreme weather and flooding events.

Ms. Poste will provide recovery consultant services under a six-month contract.  She has extensive experience with emergency management and recovery including the 2013 Alberta floods and the 2016 Fort McMurray fire.  More recently, she assisted the Village of Lytton with recovery planning.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ms. Poste to work with us as she brings much needed capacity as a point person for FVRD’s recovery program,” said Bill Dickey, Chair of the Electoral Area Services Committee.

One of Ms. Poste’s first priorities will be to work with FVRD managers to document damages to FVRD assets and infrastructure, estimate costs for repairs, and submit an application to the Province for funding.

Ms. Poste co-authored an article in the Journal of Emergency Management on experiences in virtual emergency operations centres and her expertise on this way of working will be useful for FVRD staff.

FVRD acknowledges the support of Emergency Management BC in funding the emergency recovery manager position.
