EVACUATION ORDER PARTIALLY DOWNGRADED TO ALERT SOUTH OF ALEXANDRA BRIDGE TO SAWMILL CREEK

The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) announced the partial downgrade of the Evacuation Order south of the Alexandra Bridge to Sawmill Creek, effective at 11:30 a.m. August 24, 2026.

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit has announced the following highway status. As conditions may change quickly, please check DriveBC for current road conditions.

• Highway 1 north of Yale to the Alexandra bridge will be open to traffic.
• Highway 1 between Alexandra bridge to Alexandra Lodge remains closed.

A portion of the Evacuation Order, originally issued on August 1, 2026, has been downgraded. The following areas in Electoral Area B are now on Evacuation Alert:

• Properties south of the Alexandra Bridge to Sawmill Creek and west of the Fraser River.
• Properties in the Spuzzum First Nation.

Some properties remain on Evacuation Alert. The Brunswick Creek wildfire is still considered out of control however BC Wildfire advises the risk to life and property has sufficiently subsided and residents may return home if they choose to.

First Nations affected by this partial downgrade to Alert should look to their government for direction.

The following areas in Electoral Area A and B REMAIN on Evacuation Order:

• Properties between Alexandra Lodge to Alexandra Bridge.
• Properties on the east side of the Fraser River and south of the Alexandra Bridge.

Evacuee supports for residents no longer on Evacuation Order will no longer be available. Residents on Order remain eligible for Emergency Support Services on a case-by-case basis.

The FVRD has a re-entry guide for residents with information on what they need to do before they return home and when they return home. Information such as cleaning refrigerators or freezers and how to dispose of spoiled content and what foods are safe to consume can be found in the guide. A print copy will be available for returning residents as they return to their community. A downloadable version is also available on the FVRD website at fvrd.ca/EOC.

Property owners with private wells are reminded that the wells require testing before consuming the water. Well operators should contact Fraser Health for advice.
