FVRD Begins Work on the Removal of Temporary Flood Protection Assets in Chilliwack River Valley

The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) is grateful for the ongoing patience and support during the duration of the emergency works on or near Chilliwack River Valley resident’s private property during the Atmospheric River events in December 2025.

Beginning May 25, 2026, work to remove the temporary flood protection Hesco barriers in the Sheldon Road and Osbourne Road Neighbourhoods will begin. With the information gathered the lower-than-average snowpack supports a high level of confidence for a low freshet risk this spring.

Removal of the Hesco barriers will return the use of the land to the property owner and allow the FVRD to repair any damage to the land that occurred as a result of the installation on the works. Additionally, under the Provincial Flood Response Plan, the removal of the Hesco barriers is a requirement due to the assets being on loan to the FVRD by the Province of British Columbia. If a future emergency deemed it necessary, the Hesco barriers can be redeployed.

During the work period, the FVRD is asking everyone in the area to watch for signage, follow directions by workers, and stay away from working equipment for everyone’s safety.
