On Monday, July 27, 2026, I was the Fraser Valley Regional District spokesperson for the Brunswick Complex Wildfire. During a radio interview with CBC Radio West with Sarah Penton, I made an error that I would like to correct.

At the end of the interview, I misspoke regarding why the water was originally shut off to the Boston Bar Water System. I wish to correct my statement regarding the water being stale. This was not the case. The water was turned off before the act of vandalism because the observation of the reservoir indicated that it was quickly depleted. If the reservoir is emptied and the system runs dry, extensive damage to the system could occur. Power went out and connection to the water system could no longer monitor water levels. It was believed that the water system was at risk of being emptied and the FVRD took actions to shut it off to avoid the risk of major damage. At that time, the system was not able to provide any significant fire flows.  

I understand that the FVRD commits to outlining the decisions made during the Brunswick Complex Wildfire from the Emergency Operations Centre, however, this will take time as the EOC remains active and is in the response phase for this emergency.
