Wildfires in the Region

August 29, 2022

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is aware of several active wildfires throughout the region. An update from BCWS today lists the Ainslie Creek Wildfire at 23 hectares and not likely to spread beyond its current boundaries under the forecasted conditions. The wildfire is located approximately 6 km northeast of Boothroyd in the Fraser Canyon.

The FVRD Emergency Management department works with Emergency Management BC (EMBC) and the BCWS in monitoring wildfire risks and threats in the region. BCWS is the agency responsible for wildfires throughout the FVRD. Please direct any questions to BCWS and not the FVRD Fire Departments.

The active wildfires in the region are not currently located near populated areas although residents and travellers in the region may see smoke. During the wildfire season, it's important for residents and travellers to be prepared to leave an area of risk or hazard.

For information on current wildfire activity, visit the BCWS website. If you don’t have a computer or smartphone, consider partnering with a neighbour to alert you of hazards. To report a wildfire call 1-800-663-5555 or *5555 on a cell.

We encourage residents to sign up to receive emergency notifications using Alertable. Visit fvrd.ca/alerts to sign up to receive notifications via phone, email, text, smart speaker, or app.
