Attractions
- A floating boardwalk leading to a viewing platform and a second wheelchair-accessible viewing platform close to the parking lot
- Approximately 2 km of easy walking trails with viewing areas and benches
- A sensitive ecosystem surrounding Cheam Lake and an abundance of wildlife, plant and bird species; because of this, pets are not permitted within the Regional Park
Pets Not Permitted
Pets and other domestic animals, including dogs, cats, and horses, are not permitted at Cheam Lake Wetlands Regional Park, in accordance with FVRD Bylaw No. 1500, 2018. This helps protect the sensitive wetland habitat and the many species that depend on it.
Even well-behaved pets can cause unintended harm, including:
- Disturbing wildlife through scent, sound, and presence, increasing stress and causing birds and other animals to avoid important nesting and feeding areas
- Trampling vegetation and disturbing nests, especially when off-leash
- Wandering off designated trails, which can wear down sensitive habitat and create new paths through sensitive areas
- Leaving behind waste, which even when picked up can introduce harmful bacteria and parasites into the water and soil, affecting wildlife, other pets, and even children
We appreciate your help in keeping this special area safe and undisturbed by leaving pets at home when you visit.
