Outdoor Recreation Study

With the Lower Mainland's population expected to grow to more than four million by 2051, we anticipate there will be increased demand for outdoor recreation opportunities in our region.

In 2018 we received federal grant funding to create an outdoor recreation study that will guide the growth and expansion of outdoor recreation in our region.

The first phase of the study, which involves quantifying the value outdoor recreation brings to our region, is well underway. Data has been collected from over 150 different locations and a final report should be ready by late spring 2020.

The second phase involves creating an outdoor recreation management plan to guide the growth and expansion of outdoor recreation in our region. The plan will separate the FVRD into recreation areas. For each recreation area, there will be localized details about what activities are occurring, challenges and opportunities, and also management recommendations.

Next Steps

Once the draft plan is complete, it will be shared on this page to allow you to provide feedback before the plan is finalized.
