March 2026 Atmospheric River Events
(last updated: March 17, 2026 @ 9:17 p.m.)
Current Update:
- The BC River Forecast Centre’s High Streamflow Advisory remains in place for the Fraser Valley. https://bcrfc.env.gov.bc.ca/warnings/index.htm
- Heavy rainfall, combined with runoff from melting snow, is expected to produce high flows in the Chilliwack River from March 17-22, 2026. Today, the BC River Forecast Centre is predicting a 1:100 year flow on March 20 and 21, 2026. Flows of this volume would overtop the bank and result in flooding and erosion.
- Occupants of properties near the Chilliwack River in Electoral Area E should prepare for potential flooding. View https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/safety/emergency-management/preparedbc/know-your-hazards/floods/before-flood for flood preparation activities.
- Landslide risk increases during periods of heavy rainfall when slopes are saturated with water. Please monitor slopes for signs of movement.
- Please stay back from riverbanks and avoid fast moving water.
- Drive with extreme caution. Do not drive through flooded roads, turn around and go another way.
- Residents are advised to monitor Environment Canada weather forecasts and alerts as well as BC River Forecast Centre for advisories.
- The Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) is now active at Level 2.

Emergency Incident Updates
Below you’ll find key information about incidents where we have held a coordination role. Many incidents occur that do not rise to the level of impending threat to life and property. There are a number of active wildfires across the landscape in the FVRD electoral areas. Wildfires are a natural part of the environment and in most cases do not pose threat to people or property. When they do create risk to communities and properties, FVRD is notified by the BC Wildfire Service in partnership with the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness.
