FVRD Receives Honourable Mention at the Climate and Energy Action Awards
September 26, 2019
The Honourable Michelle Mungall, Minister of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources presented Climate and Energy Action Awards recognizing the climate leadership of BC local governments at the annual Union of BC Municipalities Convention yesterday.
“Local governments across BC are taking action to reduce climate pollution, build our clean energy economy, and create new jobs and opportunities for communities,” said Mungall. “The innovative projects we are celebrating today are great examples of the leadership we need to achieve the goals of the Province’s CleanBC plan. Congratulations to all of this year’s winners.”
Honourable Mentions were awarded to the FVRD for the Love Our Air Education Program and the Fraser Valley Food Recovery Project, a partnership with FoodMesh.
Love Our Air is designed for grades 5 through 10 and is intended to raise awareness about how air quality affects human and environmental health, and teach them what they can do to make a difference.
The Fraser Valley Food Recovery Project has helped divert food waste within the region by connecting food suppliers with charities via the FoodMesh app.
